An Israeli business does not need to choose between SEO and GEO as if they required two different websites. SEO concerns pages being found and appearing in search; GEO concerns visibility and the presentation of information in environments that generate answers. Much of the work overlaps: a clear service, reliable information, and accessible pages. The key difference is what you test and how you interpret the result.

A costly mistake can begin with an unnoticed change of goal. A business seeking inquiries about a particular service may find itself measuring general mentions of its name. A mention can be interesting, but you need to establish whether it addresses a customer's need and connects to a path that leads to an inquiry.

Define two questions before setting a budget

For SEO, you can ask whether an appropriate page appears when someone searches for a relevant service. For GEO, you can ask how the business or its content fits into an answer to a more complex question. For example, a customer may request a comparison of solutions or an explanation of how to choose a provider for a particular need.

This does not mean every regular search is short or every AI conversation is long. It points to the need to define the test in advance. Appearing in a result, receiving a page citation, having a name mentioned, and receiving an actual inquiry are different events. You can measure several, but should not combine them into one metric without explanation.

A small business can start with a core service and a limited group of questions. Trying to test every field and every engine at once makes it difficult to understand which change to make and what contributed to it. A focused choice provides a basis for comparison over time.

The technical foundation remains when AI generates the answer

Google states that normal SEO principles also apply to AI features in its search products and that no additional dedicated markup is needed to appear in them. This is useful guidance against promises of a "secret tag," but it applies to Google's search products, not every system on the market.

The basic work includes checking whether an important page can be discovered and read, whether its main content appears as text, and whether it has logical internal links. Also review duplicate pages, changed URLs, and information left only in a file or image that is difficult to use.

You do not need to make every possible technical change. First identify the problem and the pages it affects. Clear service details on a blocked page call for a different task from an accessible page that fails to explain whom the service suits. This diagnosis prevents investment in the wrong fix.

Describe the business the way customers need to understand it

A service page should answer real questions: what customers receive, whom it suits, what they need to prepare, and what may vary between cases. State any defined service area. If suitability must be assessed before a proposal, explain that beside the relevant description.

Natural wording also matters for Israeli audiences. An English professional term can appear beside its Hebrew equivalent, but every sentence does not need to become a string of acronyms. Use terms customers understand and explain technical terminology the first time it is needed.

Local context also requires precision. There is no reason to create a page for every city if the business does not serve it or all the pages present the same content. A page that clarifies the service area is better than a list of places added to create an impression of coverage.

Separate systems and types of access

ChatGPT, Gemini as a conversational application, and AI features in Google search are not the same interface. A test in one product is not an automatic measure of another. Even within a product, record the search mode, conversation context, and information supplied by the user to understand exactly what was tested.

OpenAI documents a distinction between its search crawler and the crawler associated with training. Allowing a public page to be discovered is therefore not the same as agreeing to every possible use of it. The page on promoting a business in ChatGPT explains this distinction and its implications for technical checks.

There is no need to expose private information to improve a public website's visibility. Permissions should match the content type and business policy. Even when access works correctly, the system still decides whether to use the page in an answer, and the business cannot guarantee that outcome.

Request one work plan with distinct tasks

When considering professional support, for example through Easy Internet SEO, request a breakdown that separates website work, content development, and visibility testing. The service label matters less than who does what and how the next task is chosen.

A shared plan can use the same service page for search and AI answers instead of creating competing versions. Define which changes address a clear problem and which are experiments requiring measurement. This prevents every new idea or acronym from being presented as an urgent need.

Also clarify who approves business facts and who updates them. An external provider cannot know on their own that the offer's terms have changed. The workflow needs a clear contact for corrections, especially when the same information appears across several pages.

Measure results in terms the business understands

On the search side, examine impressions, clicks, and pages that attract a relevant audience. For AI answers, record mentions, sources, and how accurately the service is described. Then examine inquiries and their quality if there is a reliable way to attribute them to a channel or page.

Google's documentation states that traffic from AI features in search is included in overall search reporting in Search Console. Do not present every traffic change as necessarily resulting from AI answers. Likewise, an unidentified source in the website's referral report does not prove that the customer did not use it.

You can ask customers how they found you, but their answers are also partial data. Someone may read several sources before making contact. Measurement should support better decisions, not assign certainty to information that cannot provide it.

Plan a small experiment you can learn from

Choose one service page, document its current state and the questions to test, then address a defined problem. For example, add an explanation of service suitability or correct conflicting business details. Keep the change date and previous wording so it is clear what was done.

Then repeat the check under similar conditions. If the answer changes, examine the sources and the type of change too. One case does not establish that the engine has "learned the business," and one answer that omits the business is no reason to abandon the work.

A useful experiment may also show that visibility is not the problem: people reach the page but do not understand the offer or the next step. Improving the explanation and contact process may then be more urgent than expanding the number of questions tested.

Keep terminology in the service of decisions

SEO and GEO are working frameworks, not business goals in themselves. Understanding generative engines can help select appropriate checks, but the plan should remain connected to what the business sells and what customers need to understand.

When the website is clear, information is current, and measurement distinguishes exposure from inquiries, both areas can be assessed together. Each task then has a practical reason, and each result is evaluated for what it actually tells you.
